První Orientation Meeting / The first Orientation Meeting

CZ Poté, co jsem úspěšně vyplnila internetovou databázi (ještě pořád si nejsem zcela jistá, jak se mi to podařilo - RYEDB databáze je ďáblův vynález), jsem byla pozvaná na první Orientation Meeting v Třebíči. V e-mailu s pozvánkou bylo výslovně řečeno, že meeting je povinný. Moc velkou radost jsem z toho neměla, protože jsem tou dobou měla poměrně nabitý program...

Strávila jsem úchvatný týden ve Velké Británii. Co to má společného s tvojí výměnou? Proč to sem píšeš? Koho zajímá tvůj pobyt ve Spojeném Království? Brzy uvidíte! 

Jak už jsem zmínila, ve Velké Británii jsem se měla výtečně. Problém byl v tom, že jsem se domů měla vrátit v podvečer 13. listopadu. Ale kvůli hustému provozu a hloupému řidiči (kterému se tímto neomlouvám) jsem se domů dostala 14. listopadu v jednu hodinu ráno. To znamená, že mě ten krutý, bezcitný budík nechal spát pouhopouhé čtyři hodiny. Zato jsem prospala celou cestu do Třebíče. Na místo určení jsme dorazili o hodinu a půl dříve, protože (ačkoli jsem byla ospalá a unavená) jsem se bála, že přijedeme pozdě. (Každý, kdo mě zná, si teď dozajista uvědomí, jak důležitý pro mě tento meeting byl.)

Orientation Meeting probíhal výhradně formou prezentací. Jedna byla o Rotary International, další o zkušenostech hostitelských rodin, jiná o zemích, do kterých se dá jet na výměnu... Úplně každá prezentace byla neuvěřitelně zajímavá, a tak mi nezbývalo nic jiného než celou dobu dávat pozor. Na konci meetingu jsem byla zcela vyčerpaná a doslova a do písmene přeinformovaná.
Tehdy jsem si poprvé uvědomila, že vůbec nezáleží na tom, kde svou výměnu strávíte. Výměna kdekoli by byla fantastická.

EN After I successfully filled the Internet database (I still am not sure, how I was able to manage it - the RYEDB thing is a devil's instrument) I was invited to the first Orientation Meeting in Třebíč. In the invation email was written that the meeting was compulsory. I wasn't very happy about it because my timetable was pretty full...

I spent a wonderful week in the Great Britain. What does it have to do with your exchange? Why do you write it here? Who cares about your stay in the UK? You will see very soon! 

So as I said, I had a great time in the Great Britain. The problem was that I was supposed to return home on 13 November in the evening. But because of the traffic jam and silly driver (sorry not sorry, man) I got home on 14 November at 1 a. m. Which means that I had slept for four hours before the cruel alarm clock woke me up. I slept all the way to Třebíč. We arrived hour and half earlier, because (though I was sleepy and tired) I was afraid of being late. (Everyone who knows me must know now how important the meeting was for me.)

The Orientation Meeting consisted of presentations. One was about Rotary International, other about experience of host families, next one about the countries you can go to... Every single presentation was extremely interesting so I was paying attention all the time. At the end, I was absolutely exhousted and full-filled with information.

This was the first time I realised that that it doesn't matter where you spend your exchange. An exchange anywhere would be fantastic.

CZ Pár dní po vyplnění předběžné přihlášky mě čekal pohovor v mém Rotary klubu. Před začátkem jsem byla docela nervozní, protože jsem věděla, že následující okamžiky ovlivní celý můj život. Vše naštěstí dopadlo dobře. Hned při vstupu do restaurace, v níž se schůzka konala, jsem se potkala se všemi třemi letošními inboundy (studenti, kteří tráví své výměny v ČR). Se dvěma z nich jsem se dobře znala už ze školy. Se třetí studentkou jsem tak měla možnost se konečně seznámit. Všichni byli nadšení, že se chci také stát výměnnou studentkou. I ta holka, se kterou jsem se znala sotva pár minut. Tady jsem poprvé pocítila, že výměnní studenti drží při sobě. Přítomnost mých nových přátel mě uklidnila a povzbudila. Byla jsem tak ráda, že tam jsou se mnou! Brzy jsem zjistila, že rotariáni jsou nesmírně milí lidé, kteří mě nechtějí sníst zaživa ani mě podrobit všem stupňům tortury. Naopak! Byli ke mně vlídní a bylo zřejmé, že se mi budou snažit pomoci. A od té doby je můj život spojený s Rotary.

EN Few days after I filled the preliminary application form, I had an interview at my Rotary Club. I had been pretty nervous before the interview, because I had known that the following moments would affect my entire life. Fortunately, everything ended up well. When I was entering the restaurant, in which the meeting took place, I met all three of our inbounds (the students who are spending their exchanges in the CZ). I had already known two of them from school. Finally, I had a chance to befriend the third exchange student. They all were excited that I wanted to become an exchange student. Including the girl which I had known only for few minutes. That was the first time I actually felt that exchange students stick together. The presence of my new friends calmed me and encouraged me. I was so happy that they were there! I found out very soon that the Rotarians are extremely nice people who don't want to eat me alive nor try all levels of Torture on me. On the contrary! They were really kind to me and it was obvious that they would try to help me. And since then, my life has been connected with Rotary.

Rotariáni nebyli kanibalové. / Rotarians were not cannibals.

Neměli rádi mučení. / They did not fancy torturing.

Byli to velmi milí lidé. / They were really nice people.

CZ Když se nad tím tak zamyslím, zjistím, že výměnnou studentkou jsem vlastně chtěla být vždy. Lépe řečeno, vždy jsem chtěla cestovat a poznávat svět. Poslední dobou jsem si ale stále častěji říkala, že už je načase, abych se sama někam vypravila. Brzy jsem však zjistila, že to nebude tak jednoduché. Hodiny strávené nad webovými stránkami všech organizací, poskytujících studijní a výměnné pobyty mládeže, si ani netroufám spočítat. A pak se na mě usmálo štěstí: narazila jsem na organizaci Rotary Internacional. Po prostudování pravidel a podmínek výměny mládeže jsem si byla naprosto jistá, že Rotary je přesně to, co jsem hledala. Maminka byla již s myšlenkou, že její mládě opustí hnízdo, nějakou dobu smířená. A tak mi odpadl problém většiny budoucích studentů: přesvědčit rodiče, že je dobrý nápad pustit své nezletilé děti samotné do světa. Mohla jsem si podat přihlášku na výměnný pobyt. 

EN When I think about it I find out that I've always wanted to be an exchange student. Or better said, I've always wanted to travel and explore the world. Lately, I kept saying to myself that the time to go somewhere came. But I found out very soon that it wouldn't be that easy. I don't dare to count the hours which I spent on the websites of the organizations providing the study and exchange stays for youth. And then I was in luck: I found the Rotary International organization. After I read up all the rules and conditions, I was absolutely sure that Rotary would be exactly what I had been looking for. My mum has already been okay with the idea of her little one leaving her nest. So I didn't have to deal with the problem of the majority of future exchange students: to convince their parents that it's a good idea to let their under-aged children go to the world on their own. I could applied for an exchange stay.
